Tables made of smoked oak wood

Personally, we consider ‘smoking’ oak wood to be one of the most beautiful woodworking techniques. We call it ‘smoking,’ but that’s not actually a good term. It would be more accurate to call it ‘fuming,’ exposing the oak wood to the vapor of ammonia. For this purpose, we use a special enclosed space where our tabletops are placed. We place small pots of ammonia inside, and chemistry does the rest. After about six hours, the wood becomes darker and deeper in color, the lye rises to the surface, and the tabletop is ready for further processing.
